N.Y.C Color Duets in "Bowling Green" and "Upper Zest Side" (Review)

The next installment of the previous Walmart Mini Haul is the N.Y.C. color duets. I found these on a random picking spree among the not so beautiful grunge that is the makeup section at my local Walmart. It's not the most glamorous place to shop for the newest makeup finds, but you can never forget about the diamonds in the rough. Also! Soon to come! My order from E.L.F. arrived yesterday. So i'll be sharing that very soon.

Company Description: It can be difficult to stand out in New York City. But with NYC New York Color City Duet Eye Shadow you have the power of two perfectly coordinated shades to make your eyes pop - at an eye-popping price! These silky, long-lasting, ultra-vibrant shades stay flawless for hours and hours. We think it’s about time you got the attention you deserve.

What I Think:I've never even looked at any N.Y.C product before this day, but these shadow duos really jumped out at me. My expectations for them were fairly low seeing as they were only $2.99 each. But when i got these home and started to use them i knew i was entirely wrong about them. They go on smooth, they're easy to pick up on a brush, the color pay off is beautiful especially on the darker colors, and i love matte shadows, and these are a silky matte for only $2.99.

Each duo comes with a double ended sponge tip applicator, perfect for travel, or when you've washed all your brushes, and are waiting for them to dry.

First "Upper Zest Side"
This duo contains a bright lemon yellow and a corresponding orange. the orange color had a greater color pay off but the yellow can be just as intense when applied over a base.
Each duo comes with a small sponge tip applicator. The colors are also labeled "Highlight" (Left) and "Contour" (Right),for those of us that aren't to makeup savvy and need a little instruction as to where to place such colors on the eye.
On the left the colors were applied with no base, but straight shadow.
On the right the shadows were applied over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
No base
....Sorry for the cuts on my arm, my cat attacked me.
the coverage can be easily built up. I just used the sponge tip applicator these came with for these swatches. The yellow id a little more difficult to work with but it's worth it
Over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
Over a base these colors just explode with amazingness. I did notice a little fallout with the orange, and a tad more with the yellow, but nothing to major.

The "Bowling Green" duo is my favorite of he two. The more yellow color is what i like to call...."moldy lemon" but it's a great accent color. The green, unlike the yellow is a matte dark forest green that i positively love

Again both colors come with a plastic overlay labeling each color "Highlight" and "Contour"
Top: No base
Middle: Over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
Bottom: Over Revlon's Cream Shadow
With no base i was a little difficult to build up the lighter color. I don't really like the shimmer in it, because i feel it negatively effects the color as a whole. The green looks very washed out in this picture because it's facing the light, but it really does have a fabulous smooth texture that goes on easy with full coverage.
Over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk the duo is pushed into extraordinary.  I reallly like the yellow color over a white base because it defeats the evil of the shimmer. With the green over white is gets a little difficult to cover all the white spots.
Over Revlon's Cream shadow from the "Electric Pop" pallet. (Pictured below)
For starters, i don't like the cream shadows, but i do often use them as bases. However they are difficult to use a bases. The green cream shadow did give these colors new dimensions but i don't feel its worth the trouble. It was messy, difficult to cover, and not much different from the white base. I though i'd give it a try just to see. I don't really like it.

Price: $2.99 at Walmart

Worth it?:Positively! I really like these "Duets" because they're cheap, good pigmentation, versatile, and smooth. With a lot of drugstore brands i find that they get lumps and bumps but i had no problem with these. I feel that they are a great quality product for the price.
Will I Buy It Again?: Yes, as soon as my Walmart get the other duos in stock i plan to gobble them up. You can see the other shades as well as these ones on New Your Color's website. N.Y.C. Shadow Duets
